Mexico Tariffs Paused
Today, Thursday, March 6, 2025, President Trump announced a pause on newly instituted tariffs on Mexico which went into effect earlier this week. The President said, via Truth Social:
After speaking with President Claudia Sheinbaum of Mexico, I have agreed that Mexico will not be required to pay Tariffs on anything that falls under the USMCA Agreement. This Agreement is until April 2nd. I did this as an accommodation, and out of respect for, President Sheinbaum. Our relationship has been a very good one, and we are working hard, together, on the Border, both in terms of stopping Illegal Aliens from entering the United States and, likewise, stopping Fentanyl. Thank you to President Sheinbaum for your hard work and cooperation!
Based on this post, it appears that all USMCA qualifying goods entering from will be exempt from the additional tariffs until April 2, 2025. President Trump held a phone call with the Prime Minister of Canada earlier today, which did not result in similar concessions for Canada.
So far, there has been no further guidance from either the White House or CBP. We will continue to monitor for updates as the situation develops.
